Halloween is next Wednesday and students and teachers are encouraged to get in the Halloween spirit by dressing for the day.  Students who choose to dress for Halloween, must abide by the below guidelines.
  • All costumes must be “PG” rated.
  • The School dress code policy must be followed.
  • Costumes may only be worn on Wednesday, October 31st.
  • Costumes may not be a disruption to instruction in any way.
  • Costumes may not be derogatory or offensive to any groups or individuals.
  • Costumes may not include any weaponry or representations of weapons.
  • Masks are not permitted.
  • Students’ faces must be uncovered and easily identifiable (left up to the discretion of the administration). .

If a costume fails to comply with any of the above expectations the student will be detained and disciplinary action may result. Remember, you will be held accountable for your personal conduct as well.  Our expectation of your behavior is the same as it is on any regular day.  While we enjoy the spirit of Halloween, we will maintain our high expectations of student behavior.

Serra's Student Of The Month Celebration Returns

After a long hiatus, Serra's Student of the Month program has returned with a new name: "The Golden Conrad Award."  On Thursday, October 11th,  we had a very successful presentation of the Golden Conrad Awards for 28 special students.  Teachers choose a student from their Period One class that radiates positivity and/or kindness.   Parents were invited and many were in attendance to see their child receive certificates that were adorned with the teachers' words of encouragement.

The next round of Golden Conrads will be given out on November 1st.  We'll be recognizing students from Period Two who are outstanding collaborators or team players.

Dance Dress Code

Please remember the dance dress code for all female attendees before purchasing your dress: At least finger- tip length, no spandex, and naturally flowing. Dresses may not be backless below the bra line or have side cut-outs. Front slits must be fingertip length or lower. Thank you for ensuring an elegant and tasteful dance for all.

Message From Principal Jimenez About Today's Lockdown

As you are aware we were in a lock down mode early this morning before the start of school for approximately two hours.  According to SDPD several burglars attempted to burglarize the construction site adjacent to the 700 and 800 buildings.  The suspects ran into the canyon north of the school.  SDPD reports they heard shots fired and took extreme precaution and advised the San Diego Unified School District Police to put the school in lock down.  At approximately 7:00am. I was notified by SDUSD police and immediately placed the school in lock down.  At approximately 7:11am a message was sent to parents via phone and email informing them of the lock down.  Throughout the morning SDUSD police monitored the progress of the incident and kept the school informed.  Throughout the morning several messages were sent home to keep parents informed and updated about the incidents and safety of the students.

All the students on campus were secured and safe throughout the entire time of the lock down.  Some of the students who ride the bus were diverted to De Portola Middle School.  We are grateful to the administration and the staff of De Portola.  They were extremely helpful and took care of our students until the end of the incident.

As mentioned above the SDUSD police kept me and the school abreast of the entire situation.  At approximately 9:38 school police informed me that SDPD had completed their search of the canyon north of the school and two suspects were apprehended.  SDUSD police advised me to lift the lock down and return all students to school/class.

A message was sent out to parents via phone and email informing them the all clear signal for Serra High School was in effect and that all students and staff could return to school/class.  All school activities resumed as normal including all extra-curricular activities. There will be no penalty for students whose parents kept them home from school.

If you have further questions please contact the administration at Serra high School 858-496-8342.

Principal Mike Jimenez
