Serra's Student-Relations Committee creates an underage-drinking prevention campaign

ELEVATED Student-Relations Committee at Serra High School paired up with the Latino Youth Council to implement a community-based, underage-drinking prevention campaign entitled, Parents-A Powerful Tool to Prevent Underage Drinking.   These students believe that if their parents’ perception of alcohol use is seen as being harmful, that would be a large contributing factor in their decision not to use alcohol.   And what better way to get this message across than advertising in stores!

Students from ELEVATED and the Latino Youth Council created messages that were placed with their photos as cut outs.

The students approached different businesses and restaurants around Tierrasanta and City Hieghts and asked store owners if they’d be willing to post this campaign in their stores.  With great success, this campaign is posted in 18 different restaurants and stores around San Diego- all with the goal of having parents talk to their teens about the risks of underage drinking.

February 16th, 2012, Elevated Student-Relations Committee, The Latino Youth Council, and Councilmember Marti Emerald, hosted a news event at Northgate Market to bring awareness about the risks of underage drinking and the role parents play in their teens’ life.

Valentine's Day Guidelines

Here are just a few guidelines for your student to follow as they prepare for Valentine's Day.
Please share with your student.

  • Latex balloons are never allowed on campus. Do not bring them. The balloons can be deadly to students and staff with latex allergies.  Due to the nature of these allergies, we cannot keep the balloons in the office. Any latex balloons brought on campus will be disposed of and not returned.
  • Gifts must not be large enough to cause a disruption in class. This includes large Mylar balloon bouquets.
  • Baked goods (cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc) will not be allowed on campus. The crumbs left behind by these items attract various types of unwanted pests.

As always, our dress code will be enforced.
