All students are invited to get a FREE heart screening at Patrick Henry High School on Sunday, October 20th.
The screening is offered by the Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation, which has screened 9,000 teens for heart abnormalities that can put them at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest-(SCA) - the number two killer of youth under 25.
Parents simply register at EPSaveALife.org and download a parent screening packet.
Screenings consist of a health history, an EKG, and if indicated, an echocardiogram. These are not standard offerings during a teen's well-child or pre-participation sports physical, but they are so important because Sudden Cardiac Arrest often has no warning signs -- the first symptom could be death. We lose 7,000 kids annually -- nearly half a dozen in San Diego alone.
The screening is free, painless, noninvasive and quick - less than 30 minutes - and is administered by San Diego cardiologists, nurses and techs - many from Scripps.
The screening is for kids age 13 - 19. We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to screen your teen.
